Eastern Campus to Host American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk – Sunday, October 23, 2016

Strides Sccc 2016-7-22

Suffolk County Community College, the Suffolk Community College Foundation and the American Cancer Society are working together to bring breast cancer awareness to the Long Island community.  On Sunday, October 23, 2016 the Eastern Campus will be hosting the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.  Approximately 4,000 individuals will walk around “Ring Road” and unite as a community to raise awareness about the steps you can take to reduce the risk of getting breast cancer.

Additionally, we are happy to announce that through this partnership the Foundation has created the first endowed “Breast Cancer Survivor’s and Caregiver’s Scholarship.” This scholarship will be awarded to a Suffolk student who is a survivor or has been a caregiver to someone impacted by breast cancer.

When communities participate in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks they are helping those currently fighting the disease, those who may have to fight it one day, and those who will avoid a diagnosis due to education and risk reduction.  When it comes to breast cancer, no one should walk alone.  We encourage our college community members to form a team, join a team, walk as an individual or bring a friend to the Eastern Campus. For more information or details about registering please contact Russell Malbrough at 631-451-4630.

Together we can make a difference in our community.

Maserati of Long Island Donates 2016 Maserati Ghibli as Hole-in-One Prize for Suffolk Golf Classic

Maserati of Long Island Donates 2016 Maserati Ghibli as Hole-in-One Prize for Suffolk Golf Classic

Your golf drive might not be the only “drive” you can show off thanks to Ferrari-Maserati of Long Island who has generously donated a hole-in-one prize of a new Maserati for the Suffolk Community College Foundation 33rd Annual Golf Classic on August 22.

A 2016 Maserati Ghibli will be driven away by a lucky golfer if he or she can score a hole-in-one on the 4th hole of the Hamlet Golf and Country Club in Commack.

Ferrari-Maserati of Long Island has been and continues to be a generous supporter of Suffolk County Community College, our foundation and students,” said Suffolk County Community College President Dr. Shaun L. McKay.

Not a golfer? Support the college by attending the awards reception and dinner.
The reception and dinner will provide another opportunity to drive a sleek Italian sports car. A Maserati Weekend experience will be auctioned along with dozens of other prizes during the dinner hour.

“Ferrari-Maserati of Long Island provides the absolute coolest hole-in-one opportunity of any golf event in our region, and the Suffolk Community College Foundation is delighted to once again partner with this great Long Island business in support of student scholarships, said Suffolk Community College Foundation Executive Director Dr. Sylvia A. Diaz.

The proceeds from the Golf Classic will support need and merit-based scholarships, emergency student loans and quality academic enrichment programs for Suffolk County Community College students. Last year, more than 500 students were helped by more than $650,000 in aid from the Suffolk Community College Foundation.

Kevin M. O’Connor, president and chief executive officer of The Bridgehampton National Bank (BNB) and a Suffolk County Community College graduate will be honored at the event.

The Classic will tee-off on Monday, August 22, 2016 at the Hamlet Golf and Country Club in Commack. Registration includes 18 holes of golf, access to the driving range and putting green, golf cart, lunch, a cocktail reception and a celebratory dinner featuring raffle drawings, auction and awards ceremony.

Early registration is $300 per golfer and $1,100 for a foursome.
Register for the Golf Classic at the Foundation’s website at www.sunysuffolk.edu/golf

Suffolk County Community College 2014-2015 Review of Accomplishments

TO:                 The College Community

FROM:            Dr. Shaun L. McKay, President

SUBJECT:     2014-2015 Review of Accomplishments Now Available Online

I am pleased to share with you that a copy of the 2014-2015 Review of Accomplishments for Suffolk County Community College is now available online. This document covers the period from June 2014 to July 2015 and captures the major achievements of the College, its faculty and its students during that time.  You will be able to access this document directly via a link found on the homepage of the College’s website, where you can then peruse it, page by page, on-line.  If you would like to view the accomplishments from prior years as well, simply go to the homepage, select “About SCCC” and then select “Office of the President.” From there you can select the annual summary of major achievements from prior years, dating back to 2010-2011.

Your individual efforts are the driving force behind the many successes chronicled in these pages.  We are able to transform lives thanks to the expertise found in our faculty and staff and the drive found within our students.  This is something to applaud and celebrate.

This legacy that you and I are called upon to build, touches every area of College life:

  • We have worked hard to provide excellent academic programs and appropriate student services;
  • We have secured funding to build new, state-of-the-art buildings on all three campuses;
  • We have worked with our Board and elected officials to try to keep tuition affordable;
  • We have enhanced our branding and messaging to communicate our institution’s value;
  • We have made great strides in philanthropy, which has enabled us to provide over $650,000 in student scholarships; and
  • We continue to attract and hire the best faculty and staff members to assist our students in achieving their personal and educational goals.

Having done all of this, we are seeing our efforts change individual lives in a positive manner, each and every day.  Thank you for your dedication to our mission and your contributions toward enhancing all we do.
